RBL are currently producing the world premiere of Henry I of England inside St James' Church, Forbury Gardens, between 2nd and 19th November.
RBL are a professional theatre company, working with the best theatre professionals from around the country. Our shows are highly stimulating, making full use of lighting, original musical scores, choreography, costume, sets and, of course, great acting. We perform in old buildings in Reading before going on tour.
As well as shows, we also offer workshops on a variety of subjects, including Shakespeare Workshops for Schools, developed in association with the university English department. We operate Lamda classes and can run fun events and classes for really young ones, up to university students.
All of RBL's productions have been awarded numerous five star reviews, with the last receiving eight of them. Better than that, though, is the fact that they have all been highly praised by staff from educational establishments, from primary schools to the university, for their original, exciting approaches to classical shows.
In 2016 RBL are bringing their "superb" Twelfth Night to South Hill Park Amphitheatre and then Henley's Mill Meadows in June. The production is perfect for those students who might find Shakespeare a bit daunting, as well as those who naturally take to the language. Packed with outstanding music, written for the production and played live by the professional actor-musicians, it really is a beautiful, thrilling show.
In November, our new ACE and RBC funded Henry I of England will bring the memory of one of the most influential kings in our nation's history to life. Epic war scenes, exceptional chorepgraphy, stunning music and a story that relates to the ground beneath our very feet, this production is perfect for students of English, Drama, Music or History.
