Tunbridge Wells has a surprising story to tell. Set in the beautiful landscape of the High Weald, the town’s special character has inspired artists and innovators, naturalists and political radicals for over four hundred years. Grayson Perry’s 2012 documentary ‘In the best possible taste’ offered a portrait of Tunbridge Wells as the epitome of an upper middle class town. But this is just a part of the story…
The Museum & Art Gallery’s collections have existed since the 1850s, and our long history of collecting has resulted in a rich cultural resource that is easy to use and free to everyone. Our collection tells the story of the people of Tunbridge Wells, and all of the High Weald as well as that of the natural environment. But it also reaches wider than this, and reflects the far flung locations some of its citizens have visited and studied.
Perhaps most important is what we do with this resource - we are committed to sharing our collections with everybody and making them as easy to use as possible. So the only question is, how can we help you make of the most of them, today?
